I went to a Catholic girls school from grades K – 8. Sister Anna used to teach us penmanship. My default doodle is still doing circles on top of circles. My penmanship wasn’t the best (but it wasn’t the worst either). Now that I’m a writer I get to sign a lot of books and I’m retroactively grateful that my signature is attractive.
I was just reading about handwriting in the 19th c.. It was “both easy to read and lovely to regard. In its perfectly slanted, liquid shapes, it was supposed to reflect forms found in nature.” Check out this lovely article from the new Slate Historical Blog about the Spencer method.
Cynthia Leitich Smith has an amazing blog and I was flattered when she asked me to do an interview. Check it out (and dont’ forget to scroll down to the cats!)
The blog tour rolls on to On Emily’s Shelf. Emily asked me to do a guest post. I wrote about locations in Emily’s life that I used for Nobody’s Secret. And in particular how it’s nice that one major location doesn’t exist anymore. Please visit Emily’s site to check out the blog post.
The blog tour rolls on to Write All the Words. I write about the inspiration behind Nobody’s Secret. Check out my guest blog.
The blog tour continues with There’s a Book. My guest post explores how Emily Dickinson didn’t like to have her picture taken. It was fun to write and I hope you like it.
