What would it take for Emily D. to risk her reputation?

May 30th, 2013, 2:56 pm

I took a stab at this topic on the YABookshelf as part of the Blog Tour.  Melissa asked me to tackle this topic and it was surprisingly hard! Check out the post here.

Next Stop: YA Bookshelf

May 25th, 2013, 11:52 am

Having left Middle Grade Mafioso — I”m headed to YA Bookshelf for an insightful review of Nobody’s Secret.   Melissa talks about Emily’s narrative voice and her authorial voice.  And suggests that Nobody’s Secret is a perfect way to be introduced to Emily’s poetry. I have to agree!

Check out the blog here.

One of Emily’s poems —

Wild nights – Wild nights!
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!
Futile – the winds –
To a Heart in port –
Done with the Compass –
Done with the Chart!
Rowing in Eden –
Ah – the Sea!
Might I but moor – tonight –
In thee!

Nobody’s Secret gets a star from Shelf Awareness!

April 29th, 2013, 11:49 am

Jennifer Brown, editor at Shelf Awareness, did an interview with me a few months ago about Nobody’s Secret.  Her questions were so smart that she made me feel smart for writing a book that inspired such clever questions!  The review just came out and Nobody’s Secret has another star. I’m so pleased.  This novel was a departure for me. It was my first mystery and I knew I was playing with fire by borrowing Emily Dickinson as my “detective.”  Jennifer got the concept and liked it.  Call me grateful and humble today!

Prisoners now an E-Book!

November 4th, 2011, 2:10 pm

Prisoners in the Palace is now available on the Kindle and Nook!  I’m a traditionalist — I prefer the real books — but I know that more and more kids are getting e-readers. I hope they all read Prisoners on those electronic screens! And check out the revised cover — I’m not sure I’m a a fan.
