Now this is how a map should look!

May 12th, 2014, 7:20 pm

I adore old maps. One of my favorites is one I found in an antique shop in London. It’s from a 1797 atlas and it’s called a “Carted Conjecturale d’Atlantide” — in other words — a map of where Atlantis might be! (For the curious among us, it’s in the Canary Islands.. those islands are really the tops of the mountains of Atlantis. After the island sank, the mountaintops are all that remain.”

I just came across a fun website that had world maps with the contemporary names deleted and the original meanings of place names inserted. For instance, the Sahara is really called “The Tawny One.” Check it out.
