Library Media Connection Recommends Promise the Night to Boys (and Girls!)

October 11th, 2011, 10:50 pm

The Library Media Connection gave Promise the Night a great review. What I love is that they recommend it for boys and girls!
Before she became famous for her solo flight across the Atlantic in 1936, aviator Beryl Markham grew up in British East Africa. This historical fiction story describes the remarkable childhood of this determined young woman. Beryl resists becoming a respectable English woman in favor of training to become a warrior of the Nandi African tribe. Each chapter focuses on a significant event in Beryl’s life; paired with the chapters are excerpts from Beryl’s journal in which entries relate to Beryl’s remarkable childhood in Africa. The book ends with “A Note to the Reader” which very interestingly explains more about Beryl Markham. With action and a very plucky heroine, this book will appeal to young women and men alike.
